GOODBYE SOLO ...... a new film by Ramin Bahrani
WINNER AT THE VENICE FILM FESTIVAL
Robert Kirk/Treehouse Mobile recorded ADR and field effects for this award winning new film.
By A. O. SCOTT/ NY TIMES
The story told in “Goodbye Solo,” Ramin Bahrani’s wonderful third feature, is moving and mysterious, and you may find yourself pondering its implications for a long time after the film’s simple and haunting final images have faded. But it all begins matter-of-factly enough with a conversation between a taxi driver and his passenger, who proposes an unusual business arrangement.

CD Recording: Triad Stage in Greensboro |
Brother Wolf - An Appalachian Adventure with Mountain Music (www.triadstage.org)
by Preston Lane, music by Laurelyn Dossett
A world premiere adventure in the tradition of the award winning film "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?"
Robert recorded the score (14 songs) live at the stage and mixed the CD with Laurelyn back in the studio. There were no overdubs or edits. Tear rendering songs recorded in a fashion one rarely hears anymore. Preview and order the CD www.triadstage.org/brother_music.cfm
Jeri Rowe of GO TRIAD writes: "The soundtrack, available at www.polecatcreek.net, is aided by the sound guidance of Winston-Salem sound guru Robert Kirk. He recorded almost all the tunes on one long day in January inside Triad Stage. He used six old-school microphones, one of which was owned by Barbra Streisand and Glenn Frey. These sensitive tube microphones, some dating back to the 1950s, give the recording a real sense of warmth. It captures every stacked harmony, every fiddle creak, every banjo pluck, every catch in the voices of Bassett, Baugus, Dossett and Sickenberger. It's gorgeous." |
